The episode delivers on intense emotional confrontations, major revelations and some important relationship tests leaving viewers excited to see where certain dramatic stakes go in the days ahead.
The episode starts with Tara, who is insecure about the way her two most trusted people are behaving which leads to a huge fight. Over the last couple days, she has seen small signs that things are a bit different between her and some of her family members and friends. The way they whisper and dart glances her direction has left Tara wondering if there are things those two men have been keeping from them all this time. Hailey’s suspicion of this idea has become increasingly more likely in today, having overheard a conversation between her mom & aunt which all but confirms that there is something being kept from her.
And Tara is growing more uneasy, a testament to her perceptive nature and ability to know when things aren’t right. One thing the show nails is portraying Tara as a strong intuitive character who seems hell-bent on exposing this secret, regardless of the truths and realizations she may have to face.
The search leads Tara to question her mother, Shalini (played by actress Shefali Shah), in the upcoming episode. It results in an emotional heart-wrenching revelation which stuns Tara into silence Shalini, finally and with reluctance reveals that she had lied to both Tara about her father being dead years ago. Tara is completely shook to her core by this unexpected revelation. Her life is turned upside down realizing that her whole existence based on a lie and the ones she trusted most in this world were part of withholding such truth from it.
This is the surprising part that decides on how they would do things until eventually, everything went sideways. The show really nails Tara’s emotional response to this revelation: it is equal parts rage, betrayal and sorrow. The audience can see this and feel her pain, the fact that such a large part of her life has been kept from her family.
Shalini explains to MahAAr7 Zameen in a video why she had betrayed him earlier after the truth was exposed. She explains to Tara that her father’s departure was a painful truth, so therefore she kept it as Secrets such that Tara will know he travelled but not why. — Tara’s father left the family when she was a child because of his own issues, according to Shalini who decided it would be better for everyone if he just stayed gone. She only wanted to protect her daughter from the pain of being abandoned by a parent, but the revelation has opened up a new floodgate and Shalini is left dealing with an irate Tara.
This scene in today’s episode is the most emotional moment between mother and daughter. The writers have (to some extent) managed to bring both sides of Shalini’s decision very strongly — yes what she did was wrong, but also we can’t fight the display of her love towards Tara as well. This leaves viewers wondering if Tara will ever be able to get past this betrayal and forgive her mother.
Determined to find out more about her father, Tara takes matters into her own hands. She then begins searching for hints of where he could be and she swears to find him so that she can demand an explanation. It is her spirit that carries this part of the episode, in Tara’s determination along with continued physical strength. If anything, she takes her rage just to a different place: blowing the lid off everything that remains cemented about The Soprano Mystique.
That Liz now going in search of her father will spark more than a little drama in the episodes ahead. Will she be able to find him? And if she does, how will they meet again?
As the episode comes to an end, Tara is seen with her bags packed, readying herself for a sojourn in search of his father. She is crying but she looks determined. The episode ends of a cliffhanger as Tara gets an unexpected message, and based on the way these revelations are unfolding, there could be other skeletons in her dad’s closet. The audience wants to know about the next set of events and how Tara faces all of this knowing what she has learned outside.
