In the 6th September episode showcased how Maati Se Bandhi Dor is a show that aims to bring alive the traditional and deep-rooted family values, tradition with the pangs of marrying both modern thought processes along with our rich culture. One large piece of that burden comes in the form of tradition, a value holding them hostage and keeping them from moving down difficult paths to keep their family together is mirrored throughout much of this episode. The episode kept fans engaged with its emotional family moments and more than a few surprises.
The episode began with the oldest daughter of Deshmukh family, Anjali as she continued to be a rock for her own confused mess called โFamilyโ. Saying she has her heart completely set on a life of hers, but remains tied to the devotion in which they must respect their ageing parents and ancestral land. Her internal struggle is a common theme throughout the series, constantly at war with her hope for personal fulfilment and what tradition requires of her.
In this episode, Anjaliโs struggle deepened in tension when she received the job offer of a multinational company from Mumbai. The chance for a better life, the freedom she has been yearning to experience but it also means abandoning her natural Parents and ending up in unfamiliar territory. In many ways, the struggle Anjali faces with herself to either conform to her roots or live as a modern girl is relevant today for many of us trying to find our way through an ever changing environment.
I particularly liked the conversation she had with her mom Savitri. She describes how she and Anjali represent a history, the root of their tree harks all roots back to her forebears this place they live is not mere property but it carries with it everything about them. Anjali is torn between her wish to be free and the guilt that comes with it, by Savitri words.
The issues related to the ancestral land of Deshmukh in Nasik did not end either and had reached bigger tension by then. The family continues to be engaged in a battle where the land could go into auction with developers bidding for it to construct a commercial complex. This time it was Anjaliโs younger brother, Karan who came to the fore to talk sense into developers in this episode.
Karanโs character gives you the new age perspective of youngsters thinking about tradition and progress. While Anjali is the stubborn one, who refuses to sell off that land which could be profitable, however Karan indeed understands and commercially seems to have had a case. He hopes that selling the land will save the family from their financial hardship. But he faces an opposition from his elders, and especially by his father Harish Deshmukh (Yashpal Sharma) who thinks that selling the land would mean losing respect for their late ancestors.
This way the generational gap was visible when Karan and his father had a furious fight. Harish with his love for the land and an almost messianic zeal to save their heritage is in complete contrast to Karanโs harsher, more practical, modern approach. This was an analog for the overall showโs theme of how antiquated ideas can coincide with modern advancements while still in a family under one roof since everything about this series has been seen as discussing where decisions should be placed within more than our bloodlines.
Anjali decides about her job offer โ at the end of the episode. Finally, she ultimately chooses to remain in order โ at least right thenโhelp her family through what theyโre going through. Itโs bittersweet to see Anjali finally take a stand! She knows that her family requires her now more than ever and can compromise on those dreams.
That choice supports the showโs core ethos that family will always win in the end. But Anjali is brewing from within and there will be a lot more that her heart feels in the upcoming episodes.
They left the viewers on a cliffhanger in their episode, by framing another aggressive offer they put across for Deshmukhs to sell off their land. They called family members and told them that if they do not agree to sell the land in due time, then a case will be registered against you. This provides the perfect cliffhanger to wonder how Deshmukhs land out of this trouble and whether Karan would instead give all his pressure for selling off the agriculture or if itโs a time which has bound the family together.
The preview for the next episode reveals even more friction within the Deshmukh household surrounding increasing developer interest. It features Anjali trying to come up with a possible way that would allow her both, accommodate her aspirations of embarking on this career as well not snubbing out on serving dutifully for the family. At the same time, Karan has a secret meeting with some of his developer buddies and seems ready to make a deal over their heads.
Emotionally oversubscribed advice note event of Maati Se Bandhi Dor September 6 concept between modernity and tradition Given the attention to their daily struggles both with Anjali, Karan and in general for a middle-class family today adds a relatability factor which is very much needed. It ticks up storytelling by just one more notch on this show. Even as a standalone story the message of family, heritage and generational divides run deep in the episode.
The show escalated a level higher, and now we are all excited to see Deshmukh family taking full charge in solving this menace as it unfolds. Is their unity strong enough to keep them from losing their ancestral land, or will the demands of outsiders and battles amongst themselves lead to annihilation. This episode is the beginning of it and gives a good indication that shit gets real with some emotional depth. Together, these both create (awful) storyline where life can throw you problems which may not go away so easily.
