Perhaps the episode certainly had sudden movement when akshara decided to take a stand for what she thought was wrong. She wasn´t going to be pity-fucked met expectations. Her stake was not about her respect alone, it also established the Family Heritage that can now be followed by future generations. This also was a turning point for the character of Akshara, when she transitions from a daughter to wife and then realises that beyond everything else, at heart,she is indeed an individual with her own voice/opinions/values.
This, as expected, was a ripple effect that happened throughout the family due to Akshara taking her stand. A visibly emotional Manish was always seen as the family patriarch. As he verbally sparred with Akshara, a lover of the new age and liberal in her views. Manish thought of the family’s respect as his elevator, on which he stood while keeping it intact and Akshara was clear that no bravery or honour can come from this way.
Kairav was always a support system for Akshara and found himself divided. He knew that Akshara was right, but he also did not wish to go against the tide of family. You could see the conflict going on in his mind and face while he was sitting under that tree, torn between supporting his sister or not starting a war with their father.
The situation reached a peak when Abhimanyu herself reacted to the whole issue. Though he’s always stood by Akshara and her choices, for the first time ever, will this make him question his daughter in concern? He was well aware he could create friction -which may end in a divorce- for not respecting the family’s wishes.
Except that ultimately, Abhimanyu took all actions for his love of Akshara. He opted to be on her side, at least nominally: playing a kind of diplomat between her and the family. He tried to find an in between, but he clearly had enough and was going to make sure Akshara is put first.
The episode also portrayed some soulful moments between the members, which showcased their close relationship and tensions amongst themselves. But it felt more like the clash of generations and values when Akshara confronted Manish.
The dialogues were hard-hitting but real, that conveyed the struggle so well. For many viewers, particularly those who have battled to come out of similar situations themselves, Akshara’s words truly struck home. She really put emphasis on her presence and individualism. She was not just another family member, which resonated with me that way it added layers to her character.
The episode ended on an ambiguous note with the family. It was a matter of time when Akshara came to and her stand clearly shook the status quo, everything had changed now. The family members, now left to stew in their own behaviours and beliefs while the episode ended abruptly on a charged note with no conclusion end view.
This level of uncertainty leads to the future episodes where one could see what Akshara had done will land few consequences. The family will not understand her, rather they will isolate and divide with every passing phase. And viewers are left wondering what happens next as well.
The 23 August 2024 episode of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai was a perfect combination of emotions, drama and reality. The courage of Akshara to fight for what she believes in, is a stark reminder that values like self-respect and integrity are crucial. Not that it just entertained, but also served life lessons and which still makes us want to watch those pristine episodes.
With the plot developing further, viewers will see more romantic dramas and teary instances heating up in between sparks that may lead to a reconciliation.
